How does Spravato Ketamine work?Ketamine's mechanism of action is still under investigatoin. At this time research suggests Ketamine works by: 1) acting on the NMDA receptor, causing a surge in glutamate production. Glutamate helps with memory, learning, stress reactivity and memory formation. 2) increasing BDNF which causes neuronal growth, synapse formation and neuroplasticity (often referred to as 'miracle grow' for the brain). These, in combination with decreased neuroinflammatory markers, can result in an improvement in the symptoms of depression. Spravato is ketamine administered in the form of a nasal spray.

How much does this all cost? The massive benefit of Spravato ketamine is that this form of treatment is FDA approved for Treatment Resistant Depression (two or more prior therapies for depression have been attempted and unsuccessful). As such, it is covered by most insurance carriers. Other forms of ketamine treatment (IV, Intramuscular, Sublingual) are "Off-Label" or not FDA approved - meaning insurance typically will not cover them (they may accept a superbill in some cases). You can only get Spravato at certified Spravato treatment centers. Elevate clinic, in partnership with Snohomish Psychology Associates, is a certified treatment center. To start the process of becomming approved through your insurance company for Spravato - see this link to their Savings Program - Spravato With Me. Currently Elevate Clinic is accepting Regence and Premera Insurance.
